Happy New Year

Happy to year all, or to my audience of one. I hope you had a lovely holiday. Another year has come around, and many of us are probably making new year resolutions or setting lofty goals for the year. My goal is quote and unquote, simple 'do better, feel better'. For those who love a bit of philosophy, it is similar to Aristotle's concept of eudaimonia, which can be translated to mean flourishing or a state of good spirit. In his book, Ethics and Excellence, Robert C Solomon argues that living a good life is essential to managing a fulfilling organisation.   

• Enabling employees to flourish is a tall order in our current times, so regardless of your role in the organisation, let's remember the basics.   
• Show that you care. This means listening, understanding, and acceptance.  
• Enable autonomy; there is always a space within the boundaries.  
• Continue to build your resilience muscle to see you and others through difficult times.  
• Scarcity of time or resources is a given but be fair when you make your trade-offs.  
• Celebrate every win. Regardless of the outlook, there are several heart-warming moments in a day. Pay attention to those; they are worthwhile.
